Bobby got a good amount of sleep last night, a total of 5 hours! It may not seem like much but when he was getting only 2 hours, we're definitely happy with the 5. Today he tried his pureed food, although the taste was good, he continues to have a hard time eating and putting down the right pipe. This process could take some time for Bobby to learn how to eat again, until than he will continue to be fed through his G tube. Physical therapy, was in shock once again. Bobby continues to surprise them with his endurance to stand and how much he is progressing on pivoting while standing as well. Today Bobby had an eye apt, to take a look at his vision. They then informed us that is 4th cranial nerve in his left eye is damaged which is causing him to have blurry and double vision. The say that this usually goes away over time and to give it a month. In a month if he's still having double vision we than will discuss the options in which to correct his vision. This evening 3 of Bobby's favorite girls stopped by with balloons and hats, it was literally so cute! They sat around and chatted with Bobby, bringing up memories and what they've been up to recently. This was the first time since his accident that I had seen him smile this much and even start dancing in his chair, a memory that Bobby will never forget. As I sit here writing todays update, I hear Bobby say "That was awesome" I proceeded to ask him what he was talking about and he said "The party". It's clear more than ever how much his friends being there for him are impacting his road to recovery. I have so much love for all his friends and how they have never stop fighting for Bobby. I can't wait till Bobby is done with rehab and can go back to having his 17 year old life full of fun and friends! Only a short few months hopefully, we got this bud!
Please, continue to pray for complete healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he continues to regain control and sensation over the right side of his body. Pray that God gives him both the physical and mental strength to push through each rehab. Pray that when Bobby begins to wonder why this is happening, that God will give him peace beyond understanding. Thank you Jesus for another beautiful day full of healing and smiles! God is good. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Last night Bobby slept well getting a total of 6 hours, thank you Jesus! Tomorrow they will be starting him on a pureed diet of about 4 tsp. a day but to a kid who thinks he is literally starving its a lot. (Sorry bud!) Therefore the chief came up and discussed what foods Bobby likes and is able to eat. The neuro doctor gave Bobby a few words to remember and asked them through out the day to help work on his memory. He was able to remember the words without a problem. Bobby went to his PT session where he was able to take five steps towards the left, dragging his right leg in which is still fairly weak. They continue to work on standing, transferring and sitting up by myself. Bobby continues to work on his ADL's (Actives of daily living) and is very helpful in the morning when getting ready. Bobby's trach is almost completely closed! His asthma has been doing much better which is resulting in more hours of sleep. We've scheduled an eye apt for Bobby because he often closes one eye when looking at things up close. His vision may have been affected in the accident because prior to it, Bobby had 20/20 vision.
Please, continue to pray for Bobby's complete healing of his mind and body. Pray that he continues to regain control and sensation over the right side of his body. Pray that Bobby continues to have a positive mindset through the challenges that rehab may have in store. Pray that God continues to change the lives that surround Bobby by touching their hearts with the Glory of God. Thank you Jesus for another beautiful day full of love and healing! Last night Bobby got a total of 5 hours of sleep, that's amazing! This morning was like usual, brushing hair, teeth and getting dressed. He's started asking several questions about what day it is and who's coming to see him each day. Speech was first today, he still has a hard time swallowing but he's still eating up to 10 cheerio's one at a time. They won't do any eating test until the hole where Bobby's trach was is completely closed. During PT Bobby was able to sit on the edge of the bed by himself for 5 minutes! Of course, with caution and having someone in the front and back just incase he got tired. He also stood with the parallel bars as assistance for 1 minute 5 times. This is another huge step forward towards Bobby regaining is ability to walk. He is slowly regaining control and muscle back over his right leg, he can lift it and bend it on his own! They're putting a pause on how much they work his right arm until they know his shoulder is all healed up. We had our first weekly meeting with the rehab team and the staff continues to be shocked by the progress Bobby has made with the injuries he had sustained. And that's a wrap for another full day of rehab, from 8:30 am and until 3:30 pm, Bobby is doing great working hard and pushing all his limits!
Please, continue to pray for the complete healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he continues to regain control and sensation over every part of his right side. Pray that God keeps only thoughts of encouragement in his mind during times of doubt. Pray that he continues to have the strength to push through these long rehab sessions. Thank you Jesus, for making a miracle of Bobby. Thank you Jesus for another day full of healing! Oh Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I set and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. Psalm 139:1-2 We need to continue to pray for Bobby to get more hours of rest through out the night, he continues to struggle with coughing. This morning we got the approval to put Bobby back on his xoliar shot, this is a huge deal because this helps control all of his allergies and asthma issues. He's been on this for ten years but have been waiting for approval by the hospital to have it given here. This morning he was taken to get x rays on his shoulder and they found that Bobby has a hairline fracture. They will continue to monitor it and in four weeks if he's still in pain they'll do an MRI. During Bobby's speech session it was clear that he still struggles with swallowing water, he currently can only swallow half a teaspoon without choking. Today was Bobby's first time being transferred to a cam ode to use the restroom, woohoo! He also was able to stand again for 3 minutes during PT and even do a stand pivot transfer. These are huge steps to regaining his ability to walk and he is so excited! Bobby continues to be enthusiastic as he regains control over his right side of his body. It's clear now that he is very curious about the weeks that he was in a coma, he continues to rewatch and ask questions about the videos of him in the PICU, which we are happy to explain/answer for him. Many people ask what exactly Bobby knows about the accident and we've only told him that he was in a accident were he hurt his head and spine. We won't tell him who was involved until he is able to communicate clearly how he feels.
Please, continue to pray for complete healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he continues to regain control and sensation over his right side. Pray that he continues to be excited about his progress and that he realizes how amazing he is doing. Pray that Bobby gets a good amount of sleep and able to continue to show progress during his rehab sessions. Thank you Jesus for another beautiful day full of healing! God is good. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - John 14:27 Last night was a little better, in regards to how much he slept. Bobby got four hours of sleep instead of two, so we'll take it! Sunday's are the only day of the week that he doesn't have rehab so he was able to get some rest and relax during the day. Today was the fist time Bobby verbally told us that he had to go pee, this is another huge step! As he begins to communicate more on his own and it'll make things so much easier to know what he needs to be comfortable. Bobby's rehab will start at 8:30 am and go till 3:30 pm, with only a 30 minute break. He's defiantly gonna need a good amount of sleep tonight to get the most out of tomorrows rehab session.
We've been meeting some amazing people long this journey with stories so similar but different at the same time. We're taking the opportunities God is laying before us to reach more people and share the power of prayer. Please, continue to pray for the complete healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that God gives him the strength to push through his rehab sessions. Pray that Bobby has a positive mindset knowing the future ahead of him is bright. Pray that God continues to use our testimony as a way to reach those suffering in times of doubt. Thank you Jesus for another beautiful day with my sweet sweet family. You are good. 4 Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with comfort we ourselves receive from the Lord. 2 Corinthians 1:4 Last night was another rough night for Bobby. He got little to no sleep once again, due to his coughing. The doctors have decided they're gonna reduce his amantadine (the medication that helped wake him up) in hopes that he'll be able to sleep better. Today's first session was with OT, where she again helped Bobby get dressed, brush teeth and wash face. He did a fantastic job helping them transfer him into the wheel chair. His next session was with speech where they continue to work on swallowing water and eating banana puffs (easily dissolvable). We will continue to have Bobby drink from little straws until he can swallow water better. The following session was with PT. Here they took him down to the gym once again where Bobby stood for 3 minutes with assistance of course. This is another huge step forward because he was able to bare weight on his feet for the first time in a month. Bobby continues to progress increasingly and learn to talk more each day. Although Bobby has not regained complete control over the right side of his body, he stays motivated and continues to push his body to get that side working.
Please, continue to pray for the healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he was a positive mindset no matter what the outcome of the day may be. Pray that Bobby continues to regain control and sensation over the right side of his body. Pray that he will be able to sleep comfortably. Thank you to everyone who continues prayer for complete healing over our boy, your prayers is the reason our boy lives, thank you Jesus. Last night was rough for Bobby. The night mainly consist of coughing and tapping on the bed to get Lorelle's attention. This morning, the rehab doctor and respiratory came in and announced that they were gonna take the trach out, right then and there. Lorelle about had a heartache because she was the only one there but luckily, everything went smoothly and Bobby was more than ecstatic to finally have his trach out. After his trach was removed OT came in and helped Bobby do his morning routine on his own, such as washing face, brushing teeth and getting dress. Next was PT, were they took Bobby down to the gym. Since today's Bobby's first official day for rehab, he went by himself to see how well he can do without anyone with him. I will say when he got back from PT, he was exhausted so I can imagine, they worked him pretty hard today! When speech came in, they saw how tired Bobby was so they decided to just play games instead of doing a whole lot. The doctors ordered some x rays to check his elbow on the right arm, just to be sure there isn't anything they should be worried about. OT came back after his x ray's to check in, toss some balls around and work on one man transfer from bed to wheel chair. (Amazing!) Other than that, another mellow evening full of watching Fast and Furious and relaxing. Definitely hoping that Bobby can get some sleep tonight considering he hasn't slept well in the past few days. I'm thinking that now that he doesn't have a trach in, he'll be able to sleep comfortably.
Please, continue to pray for the complete healing Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he continues to regain control and sensation over the right side of his body. Pray that Bobby has a positive mindset and motivation to continue and push through his rehab sessions. Pray that during his time in a wheel chair that he learns that this is simply a stepping stone to relearning how to walk again on his own. Thank you Jesus for everything You've done in our heart and minds. Thank you Jesus that You have showed us that miracles are not just something that happens in the Bible but is still happening in modern day. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Philippians 4:4-5 Unfortunately Bobby only got two hours of sleep last night. Luckily though, his first day of rehab was more of an introduction than anything. Speech was Bobby's first visitor and they did a lot of letter recognition, reading and memory testing. He did amazing for all three categories! He was able to remember what school he goes to, who is friends are and where he was now. Speech even gave Bobby five words to remember than continued to carry a conversation and later asked him those five words, which he remembered with no problem at all! Next was PT, where they took him down to the gym floor, where he'll be doing most of his PT sessions. During his time with PT, they even did a two man assist putting Bobby into his wheelchair instead of using a hoyer lift. Another huge step towards some independence! After a 30 minute break, OT was Bobby's next visitor. The OT gave us some tips on how we can help him straighten out his right arm, since he tends to keep it bent on his chest. She suggested we massage that right arm as much as possible and even put a hot pad on it to help loosen up the muscles, that have become very stiff. OT also gave us a weight to put on his right arm to keep it extended. She than did a squeeze and pinch test to determine what level he'll be starting at for rehab. Bobby's pinch was two pounds when at his age, average is 20 and his squeeze was 5 lbs and it should be 90 lbs, keep in mind this is his left side. (I don't even think I can squeeze that hard). She is going to look into getting a water heater on his arm, all day to help loosen up those muscles even more. Bobby always got to see two of his best friends, who put his face into a smile the moment they walked in. I think he really enjoyed getting to spend sometime to talk with his guy friends, considering he's surrounded by his sisters and mom the majority of the day. (I'd like to think he doesn't mind us too much) After his friends left, we put on some of Bobby's music and relaxed for the rest of the evening, hoping that he'd take a nap.
Before I go into what to pray for tonight, I had a great conversation with one of my best friend's who said something that really stuck with me. She said that no matter how far Bobby goes with rehab and the struggles he may face, when his time on earth is over he'll be made perfect once again in heaven. Although Bobby may not realize this just yet, what he has gone through has changed his life here on earth but as also given so many people life for eternity by finding their faith in Christ and being saved, like that's amazing. No matter how the outcome is, our lives here on earth are so temporary and the fact that people are being saved for eternity because of Bobby's story, is truly incredible. Thank you again for everyone who continues to follow this journey we are on, I hope that Bobby's story continues to be shared and touches every one's heart who takes the time to read it. Please, continue to pray for complete healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he continues to regain sensation and control over his right side. Pray during times of silence, that the only voice he hears is God giving him only positive thoughts of encouragement. Pray that he continues to fight strong and hard during each rehab session. Like always, also give thanks to the Lord. Even for the simple things, sometimes we get so caught up in life about the little things that we forget to give thanks for the simple things such as our health. And of course the healing that God as done and continues to do in Bobby's mind and body. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12 Today marks one month from the night that changed our lives forever. 30 days ago, we were given the news that Bobby had suffered on the of the worst spinal and brain injuries. They told us he would be paralyzed from the neck down and with his brain injury, he may never wake up. In a month full of prayers and trusting the Lord's perfect plan, Bobby has shown the world that God can do miracles. In 30 days, God has strengthen hundreds of faiths through Bobby and hundreds of people have came to the alter because they are watching God make a miracle before their very eyes.
Now for today's update! This morning they capped Bobby again at 8:30 am and he will be capped for the next 24 hours to determine when he can get his trach removed. He has been doing fabulous all day with his trach capped and is starting to speak more clearly! Once the trach is completely out, Bobby will be way more comfortable when trying to talk, which we are looking forward too. It's really hard right now because we know he wants to say something but we can't always understand him and than we both find ourselves in a place feeling very helpless. Although he can type on the iPad, he still has a hard time putting the words that he wants to say on the iPad. I'm praying that we get the trach out by the end of the week so Bobby can work on his speech and being able to communicate his feelings clearly! Today has been mellow again, he did have a session with PT and OT though. During today's session, Bobby was sitting up on the edge of his bed completely on his own with PT sitting by behind him just in case he got tired. This time when he was sitting up, he wasn't slouching or unbalanced at all he looked great! It was awesome to see him sitting like how he would before the accident and the fact that he wasn't in any pain either was the cherry on top of it all. After PT and OT, the day was relaxed. Bobby hung out watched some movies and got some rest. Which by the way, he slept 6 hours last night! God is so good with answering our prayers, it's amazing. Tomorrow Bobby starts his first day of rehab, it's going to be a long day, so he's gonna need a good amount of sleep tonight! Please, continue to pray for the complete healing of Bobby's mind and brain. Pray that he regains complete control and sensation of the right side of his body. Pray that Bobby's memory is strong and completely restored. Pray that God gives Bobby the strength to fight through the rehab days ahead of him. Pray that he get's a good amount of sleep tonight and feels refreshed and ready for whatever the day has ahead of him. Due to God already answering so many of our prayers, let's be sure in every prayer that we give thanks and glory to all that God has already done. Thank You Jesus, that Bobby is awake and aware. Thank You that he is gaining control back over his body. Thank You that You continue to heal Bobby before our eyes. Thank You that Bobby is able to recognize the faces before him. Thank You that You have turned a tragedy into something so beautiful. Thank you God that Your love is ever lasting and that You have laid out our lives perfectly. 36 You broaden the path beneath me so that my ankles do not turn Psalm 18:36 Last night was rough for Bobby, he only got about 2 hours of sleep total due to it being the first night with his new trach and having the balloon gone. As the morning came around, he was able to get up all the secretions that had been bugging him last night. Today has been a pretty mellow day, which was probably good for him considering how much has been going on the last few days. Bobby had no sessions with PT or OT today because last night he got too little of sleep. The only exciting thing for today was that they capped his trach around 3 pm and will monitor how well he does breathing on his own and managing his secretions, for the next 24 hours. If Bobby does well with his trach blocked for the next 24 hours than they'll talk about removing his trach! (Woohoo!) With his trach blocked, he can begin to try and speak. Once my dad got to the hospital, he sat next to Bobby as usual asking how he's doing and what not. Than we hear Bobby say "I love you dad", again it's not how you and I sound but you can definitely read his lips and hear him say it faintly. Before you know it, we hear our dad break down in tears of joy, finally getting to here him say those words that are full of such meaning. Just another memory that will forever be embedded in our hearts. As we get further into Bobby's recovery, our updates should begin to get fairly short so don't be surprised if you aren't reading a novel every time but we appreciate every one continuing to follow Bobby's road to recovery.
Please, continue to pray for the complete healing of Bobby's mind and body. Pray that he gains total control over his right side. Pray that Bobby gets enough rest at night to be able to push through what his rehab sessions will demand of him. Pray he stays positive and motivated during all the challenges that lay before him. Thank you to all our prayer warriors who continue to fight for Bobby's recovery! 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 |
